Music Is Instrumental (MII), a dedicated nonprofit organization supporting music education across Lincoln County, has once again demonstrated its commitment to enriching students’ lives through music. Building on its foundational mission to make music education accessible and inclusive for all students, MII recently allocated over $49,500 in funding to support every school’s music program in Lincoln County School District for the first time in its history.

Each school received between $4,250 and $5,000, funding that will support instrument purchases, refurbishment, repairs, and technician services. “With the inclusion of all 11 schools this year, I estimate we are reaching upwards of 3,000 students,” said Mark Sanders, Director of the MII Board. “The actual numbers will become clear when post-funding reports are due at the end of the 2025-26 school year.”

Founded in 2018, MII has grown steadily through mindful financial management, strategic partnerships, and community support. The funds are primarily driven by the community’s dedication through the annual “Mad Hatter” June FunRaiser and ongoing partnerships with the Oregon Community Foundation. They also conduct an annual appeal letter campaign each November.

Sanders emphasized that careful tracking of expenses, impact, and outcomes is critical in demonstrating how these donations elevate music education. “Our community supporters truly understand the importance of music through all ages and backgrounds — from establishing a foundation, fostering teamwork and belonging, to improving reading, math scores, and self-esteem,” he said.

Karin Teisl, Taft Elementary music teacher, expressed gratitude for MII’s generous donation. “Music plays a vital role in helping students express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others,” said Teisl. “Thanks to the continued support of Music Is Instrumental, our students can experience the joy and growth that come from meaningful musical engagement.”

Sanders said the success of Music Is Instrumental is due to the power of community, business, and donor support from across the United States, all sharing a belief in the transformational value of music education. “Lives are being enhanced through the power of music — from building confidence and teamwork to positive academic and social outcomes,” he said. “The MII Board is incredibly grateful for the support and kindness of so many people.”
