Although USDA SNAP benefits are set to end on November 1, 2025 due to the federal government shutdown, Lincoln County School District’s food program will not be affected at this time.
Free breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at school every day to all students. Encourage your students to eat both every day to ensure they are getting at least two full nutritious meals a day.
However, many families and students will be impacted when their benefits do not arrive on November 1. Currently, Lincoln County School District has 2,474 students who receive SNAP benefits. In addition, about 1,375 students do not qualify for SNAP benefits due to various reasons. This means only around 790 of our students have consistent food security.
These reductions could make it more challenging for many families to provide nutritious meals for their children, which can impact their overall well-being and success at school. We encourage everyone to be aware of local resources, such as food banks and community meal programs that are available to support families during this difficult time.
