Lincoln County School District (LCSD) has received a $4,000 grant from the Pacific Power Foundation to help expand emergency sheltering capacity in North Lincoln County.

The funding will allow for the purchase of 300 emergency mass care sheltering cots that will be stored near the existing disaster supply cache at Oceanlake Elementary School. The project is a collaborative effort between LCSD and the City of Lincoln City, which has committed an additional $5,000, along with North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, which is providing manpower and logistical support. The district will also contribute $5,000 from its safety and preparedness budget.

The grant application was written by Sue Graves, LCSD’s safety coordinator, who works closely with schools and community partners to strengthen emergency preparedness planning across the district.

This project is part of ongoing collaboration between LCSD, the City of Lincoln City, North Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Oregon Coast Community College, and Lincoln County to develop disaster supply caches across North Lincoln County.

Graves said staging emergency supplies in North Lincoln County ensures resources are available locally if roads are not passable or conditions prevent assistance from arriving from other areas.c“If an emergency or disaster occurs while school is in session and if the school district is in need of the cots, they will be used for the purpose of sheltering students and staff,” Graves said. “If school is not in session, the City of Lincoln City can use them for community sheltering purposes.”

The addition of these cots strengthens the growing network of emergency supplies staged throughout North Lincoln County, supporting coordinated response efforts between schools, local government, and emergency responders during disasters.
